Teaching Philosophy

At first, my teaching philosophy may not seem relevant to non-teaching roles, but it shows my core beliefs about work and the world at large.

First, we must think deeply about what we do and examine the systems in place. We have a duty to challenge unfair practices and increase opportunities for all people. If your success comes at the cost of other people’s humanity, then you have failed. Connections to other people are what give life meaning, and these connections should be at the center of the work we do.

Second, and closely related, our work should have purpose beyond monetary gain. How is the work making the world a better place? How are we making sure we see people and not just data sets? By all means, let’s make money. But we can’t take that with us, so let’s leave behind something beautiful as well.
